Together with Vibram, we developed the revolutionary HikeTec sole, which features a unique tread pattern and a state-of-the-art rubber compound. This impressive combination enables us to continue guaranteeing the familiar comfort and first-class quality of BÄR. The HikeTec sole offers numerous outstanding features—a braking tread for secure footing downhill, as well as a claw tread for grip uphill. The cushioning midsole absorbs shocks and contains stabilizing elements.
Stabilizing yet flexible is the guiding principle behind the FIRMOFLEX® technology developed by BÄR and submitted for patent protection. The four fan-shaped cross braces in the forefoot area create increased lateral stability through their high degree of hardness, without compromising flexibility in the direction of movement. This remains possible thanks to the spacing between the individual FIRMOFLEX® elements. Finally, the cross elements prevent the forefoot area from being pressed down and collapsing under prolonged stress.
The upper encloses the foot and can be decisive in whether a shoe is purchased or not, because no one likes buying an uncomfortable shoe. In our BERGKOMFORT collection, the high-quality BÄR standard—which is also exceptionally comfortable and allows 100% BÄR Toe freedom—is achieved through the use of environmentally responsibly produced terracare® leather from Heinen and by enveloping the foot in memory foam for optimal cushioning. The leather has a water- and dirt-repellent surface and helps neutralize bacteria and odors.
The Terracare® leather used in our BERGKOMFORT HIKING BOOTS is the ideal choice for demanding applications. It boasts impressive technical properties: it is water-repellent, flame-resistant, tear-resistant, durable, and breathable. Miri and her mountain dog Filo, also known as "miiri.on.tour", put our BERGKOMFORT Hiking Boot 2.0 through its paces in the Alps. Miri is particularly impressed by the Toe freedom, which finally no longer squeezes her little toe and provides good insulation for warm feet, especially in winter.
"My verdict on the shoe: it is the first hiking shoe that fits perfectly from the start, doesn’t pinch, and doesn’t require any break-in period. It is incredibly comfortable to wear. At first, I had some doubts about how it would perform on more rugged terrain because of its wide shape, but my concerns disappeared last weekend when Miri and I tackled a steep slope—the grip was perfect. The sole is also excellent. We had fairly difficult conditions and it was quite wet, but there wasn’t a single slip."
